Biodiversity

Members of the Natural Source Waters Association collectively help to protect approx. 350,000 acres of land in the UK. The land is protected from pollution and supports a variety of species, with some members also providing homes to bee hives.

Beehives at Brecon Carreg:

We have two beehives near the Brecon Carreg source that are helping us learn about the biodiversity of our surrounding area and how we can help improve it for pollinators.

The bees are looked after by our colleague, Bill. He’s a forklift driver here at Brecon Carreg as well as our resident beekeeper. He has the largest team in the company – over 50,000 bees! Bill ensures that our bees are healthy and happy so we can continue tracking the biodiversity of the land surrounding our source.

One thing that we’ve learned from the bees is that the diversity of the pollen in our catchment could be improved which is why we’ve been busy planting lots of wildflowers for the bees to enjoy.
